Wine of the month for May: Azabache Crianza 2008

Azabache Rioja Crianza - 2008

This months wine selection comes from Roger England of WineHound.co.uk.

Here’s a fabulous award-winning wine to accompany the Spring lamb & chickpea stew recipe. Riojas are renowned for matching sweet, juicy flavours of many lamb dishes and the Azabache Crianza 2008 (£9.95) does this perfectly.

A soft, mellow red made from the local Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes, this seductive wine has delicious fruit characteristics with a hint of vanilla from 12 months in oak barrels. Flavours of rich red cherries and plums are accompanied by a rich spiciness and a soft palate.

The Azabache vineyards are located in the dry region of the Rioja Baja and the results of recent investment in a new winery are now delivering top quality wines.
