Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food, good or bad TV cookery?

Back in May, we told you about two new TV programs from the BBC, the Incredible Spice Men and Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food. We featured a recipe from the Spice Men and that program seems to of been warmly received.

However, the BBC has sent out an email to remind us about the Proper Pub Food program. To remind us that the second program is due to be broadcast..

In the second instalment of his Proper Pub Food, two-Michelin-star pub chef Tom Kerridge gives us a lesson in recipes that remind us of the great outdoors.

Tom shows us how to recreate our favourite outdoor food at home, with recipes inspired by summers spent in Great British beer gardens and cooking on the barbeque.

He pays homage to the retro classic chicken in a basket, cooked with his southern fried twist, then heads to Cornwall to make a fish burger with freshly caught mackerel, pollack and lobster. There’s a delicious maple cake baked on the barbecue, some special sticky barbecued beef ribs cooked in a barbecue sauce, and a delicious warm tomato salad.

Tom will also visit some of his favourite suppliers and give some great tips on how to source and get the most out of British produce, as well as dropping in at some of his favourite pubs around the country.

In my experience, that can only mean that the viewing figures for the first program weren’t as high as hoped for. So what do you think? Just a blip in figures and a small bit of promotion or is there a problem with the program? Leave your comments and thoughts below…
