The Great British Bake Off is Back!

The Great British Bake Off

Oh, BBC you do like to tease us…

Fans of cupcakes and all things sweet are already setting their timers for the next series of The Great British Bake Off, as the teaser video went viral this week. Laden with hints of confectioneries to come, and featuring a hungry-looking Mel Giedroyc, the video will undoubtedly whet the great British Public’s appetite for delicious baked goodies. Some of us are feeling hungry just thinking about the trailer…

The Bake Off concept…

If you’ve never seen The Great British Bake Off before (and you call yourself a foodie?) the cult TV show has a huge following, and has resurrected the career of veteran cookery writer and baker, Mary Berry and brought the name Paul Hollywood into the public domain.

Amateur bakers everywhere will be watching the show for inspiration, and to cheer on their favourite of the 12 hopefuls who have been selected to compete for the title of the UK’s Best Amateur Baker. Each week the baking gets a little bit harder, with the bakers taking on a new technique to impress the judges.

Baked Alaska and Bin Gate

Let’s face it, we’ll also be watching avidly for another Bin-Gate, the saga of the ruined baked Alaska removed from the fridge which kept viewers riveted to their screens and Twitter accounts in the 2014 series. Things got so heated at the time that presenter Sue Perkins tried to defuse the tension, tweeting,

“All getting a little inflamed for my liking. Am off. This is a show about CAKES. Please, let’s save the ire for real stuff.”

We don’t have a confirmed date for the next series of Bake Off at the moment, but we’re looking forward to another mouth-watering selection of baked goods, along with some ups and downs, burned bits and the occasional diva strop.

We’ll let you know when we find out the date for Bake Off 2015…
