Mojito! Essential Summertime Ideas!

mojito

It’s time to talk about Mojito, the summertime beverage that was born in Havana, Cuba. Yes I know it’s a Monday and talking about Alcoholic drinks this early in the week might seem strange. But are we not all all adults here and fully aware of the need to drink responsibly? Besides it’s summer and sitting outside enjoying the sunshine with a tall glass of Mojito is what civilised people do!

What is Mojito and how do you make it? Well, According to Wikipedia, there is a proper preparation…

When preparing a mojito, lime juice is added to sugar (or syrup) and mint leaves. The mixture is then gently mashed with a muddler. The mint leaves should only be bruised to release the essential oils and should not be shredded. Then rum is added and the mixture is briefly stirred to dissolve the sugar and to lift the mint leaves up from the bottom for better presentation. Finally, the drink is topped with crushed ice and sparkling soda water. Mint leaves and lime wedges are used to garnish the glass.

There are other variations but that seems to be the most common.

Mojito can be used as part of a recipe, not just as a lovely refreshing drink enjoyed by adults the world over. Here’s a collection of great ideas that range from how to make a Mojito to using it in a recipe, like cupcakes!

Mojito Fruit Salad Dressing – The Hedge Combers

This mojito fruit salad dressing is a little gift to all the Mummy’s & Daddy’s that are in the depths of the summer holidays. Especially the ones that are in need of a little treat to look forward to at the end of a long day when their little angels are all tucked up in bed 😉

Mojito Cupcakes – Brown Eyed Baker

These cupcakes are light and moist, infused with a fantastic combination of lime and mint, with a subtle undertone of rum throughout the cupcake and frosting. The flavors reflect the best part of the drink – bright and fresh, and bursting with flavor. They’re not too heavy or overpowering, which makes them perfect for any summer picnic or party. Recreating favorite drinks into baked goods is always a fun challenge; I’ve already got a few more ideas up my sleeve!

Virgin Strawberry Mojito – Simply.Food

Mojito is a Cuban cocktail that is made using five key ingredients, rum, sugar, lime juice, mint leaves and sparkling water. This is a twist to the traditional Mojito where I have made it nonalcoholic by omitting the rum and adding a summer flavouring to it with the use of strawberries.

Mojitos – Alquimia Dos Tacho (In Portuguese, Google Translate version here)

The weekend is upon us and the sun insists on not stay here … I’m sorry, because I do want “bask”. In this regard, rain or shine, we can not do anything. But we can always prepare a very cool drink mojitos like these that I present today. But not only are the drinks that make us feel like the heat. When it comes to this time of year is a strong desire to make changes at home, agree? Making clear and airy home, to get people who you like and share with them enjoyable leisure time.

[Not sure Google Translate has got it totally right!]

Mojito – One Mans Kitchen

There are many versions of the a mojito but this is your bog standard one and in my opinion the best one, However I partial to English mojito where you replace the rum with gin and the soda water with tonic water. Definitely give it ago if your feeling adventurous.
