Meet The Bakers For The Great British Bake Off Series 6

We are getting closer and closer to the start of series 6 of The Great British Bake Off. Yesterday, the names and pictures of the latest batch of contestants were released. The oldest is Marie at 66 and the youngest is Flora at 19. A former member of Buckingham Palace’s Coldstream Guards is among the contestants for this year’s The Great British Bake Off. Forty-nine-year-old Paul, from Wales, has been a prison governor for eight years but previously performed ceremonial duties at the Palace. He said the show is “an opportunity to show that men like me, stereotyped by our jobs, do and can love baking and that it is a skill and talent to be proud of”. The hit culinary show returns to BBC One on August 5 for a sixth series.

Viewers will be introduced to father-of-three Paul, who has worked as a prison governor for eight years, but who is now hoping to impress the judges with his ‘intricate sugar work’. The 49-year-old, who lives in Wales, said he decided to appear on the show in a bid ‘to show that men like me, stereotyped by our jobs, do and can love baking and that it is a skill and talent to be proud of.’ Alongside him competing for the title of star baker will be 32-year-old Lithuanian bodybuilder Ugne, London-based firefighter Mat, 37, and 41-year-old Ian, who works as a personal photographer for the Dalai Lama when he visits the UK.

The oldest contestant on this year’s series is 66-year-old Marie, who has admitted that she struggled to even boil an egg when she first started several years ago. Since moving to Paris she says she fell in love with baking and now specialising in ‘elaborate, show-stopping decorations’. The show’s judges have come up with 30 different challenges for the contestants to attempt.
