Jack Monroe’s ‘Pears In Red Wine With Dark Chocolate’

Are you looking for a festive dessert but your budget is getting a bit tight? Jack Monroe, leading expert on cooking on a budget, has a great recipe for Pears poached in spiced red wine with dark chocolate.

The finished dessert looks lovely and I’m pretty sure no one is going to guess it’s based on tinned pears! The recipe comes from her book, A Year in 120 Recipes which is available on Amazon UK.

What you will need for Pears poached in spiced red wine with dark chocolate

Serves 4

  • 1 x 400g tin of pear halves
  • 1 large glass of red wine
  • 100g sugar, white or brown
  • a scant 1⁄4 teaspoon of cinnamon (or a cinnamon stick each for presentation if you’re feeling fancy…)
  • dark chocolate, to serve
