Christmas Roast Potato Recipes You Need To Know

christmas roast potato

A traditional Christmas dinner requires perfectly cooked roast potatoes – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Of course, each chef and cook have their own ideas of how spuds should be prepared and cooked. What’s important at the end of the day is how good they taste. Flavour plays a huge part in the the perfect roast potato and can be affected by many things. For instance, the oils and fats used, the herbs that are added while they’re in the oven and even the softening process can play a part.

To give you some ideas of what can be done with the humble spud, I’ve found three great videos that will inspire you to go one better this year.

The first video is from Gill Meller who shows you how to cook a great roast potato with out much messing around. Fairly straight forward which makes it nice and easy. Besides, you’re going to be busy as it is on the big day!

Heston Blumenthal takes things a step further by adding herbs and lemon to the pan of potatoes while they are softening up. Then, towards the end of their time in the oven, he adds more herbs and some garlic.

If you’re looking for something special, then Jamie Oliver creates what could be the best accompaniment to any roast, Christmas or not – Hasselback Potatoes. If  you’re not familiar with hasselback potatoes then check out this post and find out more.
